Since it's been about a month since I last posted, I thought I would share some brief news. Matt has a new attorney (the previous one felt he wasn't qualified to fight this battle any longer) and the new attorney has filed 2 motions in Jefferson County. The first is to get the baby completely out of foster care. The second is to allow Matt visitation with the oldest. We will go to court on Thursday, May 3 concerning this motions, if nothing changes between now and then.
Secondly, in answer to prayers, my mom will begin a new position with DHR in Etowah County on June 1. She will be handling adoptions! I think this is great news for us as it will get Mom away from the trials and tribulations of child abuse investigations. I'm not certain if Mom has accepted that this move will be good for her, yet. I think that part of her will miss being able to directly protect children in abusive situations. It has to be hard to give-up what you've known for so long and have been so passionate about. Mom - if you're reading this, know that you've made a difference protecting the lives of children! You will be just as effective in your new role in adoptions. As the grandmother of an adopted child, you'll be able to be a loving, nurturing guide to parents going through the adoption process and children as they struggle with the challenges of adjusting to an adoptive family.
I'll try to post again after court...
